Right care, right place, right time: MTW are NHS Parliamentary Awards regional champions
A highly successful automated bed management system that allows MTW to significantly improve bed turnaround times and provide patients with the right care, in the right place, at the right time, has been selected as a South East regional winner for the NHS Parliamentary Awards.
Congratulations to our Care Coordination Team who were nominated by MP Greg Clark in the category of The Future NHS Award, which was announced today.
Chief Executive, Miles Scott said: ‘Our entry was one of over 700 nominations submitted so we are incredibly proud of the team for being regional champions. This recognition is well-deserved and reflects the amazing dedication and effort of the team in delivering the automated bed management system and the huge difference it is making to patient care across the Trust.’
Nick Sinclair, Director of Central Operations, said: ‘Before the new system was introduced, the Trust used a manual system to manage its capacity and bed allocation. On average, it took around 150 minutes once a patient was discharged and the bed was ready for the next patient.
‘With this new technology we are now able to move patients out of our Emergency Departments and into available beds within 40 minutes. Patients are waiting 1.5 hours less on average in the Emergency Department for a bed on a ward or assessment area, and beds are now clean and ready for the next patient within 60 minutes of them being vacated.
‘We have already expanded the automated bed management system to include the local community hospitals, in partnership with our local community trust, to improve the transition for patients from the acute hospitals into the community hospitals, through the use of electronic referrals and increased bed visibility.’
Launched in 2018 to celebrate the NHS’ 70th birthday, The NHS Parliamentary Awards recognise the outstanding contribution of staff, volunteers and others working in the health and care sector. Each year MPs are asked to nominate those individuals or teams they thought have made the biggest improvement to health services in their constituencies, across ten categories.
As a regional ‘champion’ the Care Coordination Team will be invited to attend a national awards ceremony on Wednesday 6 July in Westminster for the final stage of judging and when the national winners will be announced.
The NHS Parliamentary Awards 2022 South East regional winners are published on the NHS Parliamentary awards website.
