First JAG-accredited ‘Train the Gastroscopy Trainers’ course
The Kent and Medway Endoscopy Training Hub has hosted the south east’s first ‘Train the Gastroscopy Trainers’ course.
Gastroscopy – a type of endoscopy – is a test to check inside the throat, oesophagus (food pipe) and stomach. A long, thin, flexible tube with a small camera inside is used to find out what’s causing digestive symptoms, to treat some conditions, or check for cancer.
Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust host the endoscopy training hub for Kent and Medway, providing training for doctors, clinical endoscopists and nurses from hospitals across the region, with a state-of-the-art virtual reality simulator providing an immersive virtual environment for training.
The course is accredited by JAG, the Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy of the Royal College of Physicians, and after completing the course, attendees can go on to train others, increasing the number of endoscopists in the region and improving care for patients by reducing waiting times.
